Solar Storm: Today there will be a strong collision of solar storm with the earth! Our sun is raining fireballs, danger to humans too?
Solar Storm: Surprising incidents can be seen in the sky in the coming days. Because the Sun has reached the Solar Maxima. Solar maxima are the periods of greatest activity in the 11-year solar cycle. Due to which maximum activities are seen in the Sun. On August 14, a coronal mass ejection (CME), a fiery ball of debris ejected from the Sun, erupted from the center of the Sun. Before its dust settled, another fireball i.e. CME came out from the Sun the very next day. In the language of science, it is also called the phenomenon of release of plasma and magnetic field from the Sun's corona in the solar wind.
According to the model developed by the US National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), researchers are expecting a possible occurrence of cannibal CME. A cannibal coronal mass ejection is a phenomenon where one CME swallows another, which is followed by an even larger CME. You can even say that CMEs are on most occasions associated with solar flares or ripples and other forms of solar activity. Now this CME can hit our earth and it is expected to happen on 18th August. Solar storm can be of G1 or G2 level.
How is the severity of a storm known?
Genomic storms are denoted by G1 followed by a number from 1 to 5, with G1 being considered less dangerous and 5 being more dangerous. If a G1 storm occurs, it could affect satellite operations, stop migratory animals, and cause power grid outages, among other mild effects. If a G2 storm occurs, it can destroy transformers, disrupt spacecraft operations, and disrupt radio signals. In both the cases there is a possibility of solar waves i.e. aurora.
As SpaceWeather.com reports, the two CMEs are coming together on August 18, and will have speeds of more than 600 kilometers per second. Recently captured images by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft have shown a CME erupting from the Sun's surface, confirming that it can impact Earth. Earlier this year, a similar CME was also seen in the month of March. Which resulted in a powerful G3 level storm. NOAA reported that the explosion was caused by a sunspot called AR 2975, which caused solar flares.
What is a solar storm?
Solar storm is also called as geomagnetic storm and solar storm. It is the radiation emanating from the Sun, which has the potential to affect the entire Solar System. This can affect the Earth's magnetic field. Due to which it is also called disaster. The effect of the storm is on the energy of the atmosphere around the earth. Although the solar storm is not coming for the first time. Rather it has come before.
This incident happened in the year 1989. Then it affected the city of Quebec, Canada. Due to this there was a power cut for 12 hours. Due to which people had to face a lot of problems. At the same time, earlier the solar storm came in the year 1859 as well. Because of this, the telegraph network in America and Europe was destroyed at that time. A solar storm is a powerful explosion of energy that can affect radio communications, electrical grids and navigation signals, and pose a risk to spacecraft and astronauts.
When material collides with Earth's magnetic field and becomes trapped in the radiation belts, it can cause waves, releasing particles into our upper atmosphere. The same 'charged' particles can generate their own magnetic fields, which can affect Earth's magnetic field and affect compass readings. Changing magnetic fields can 'affect' the power, causing brown outs and black outs.
Can solar storm harm humans on earth?
Solar storms are powerful blasts of radiation. However, the harmful radiation from the waves cannot affect humans on the ground through the Earth's atmosphere. However, if they become more lethal, they can affect the atmosphere in a layer where GPS and communication signals occur.
Many solar activities were observed in the year 2021. Because the sun was throwing flames of fire. Many asteroids collided with our planet. Although no harm has been done to anyone. People fear about solar storm also because it can even affect the signal of mobile phones. Due to this there is a danger of blackout. Even if the solar storm is of G2 level, it is considered dangerous.
